Do's
- Your rug has been packed tightly in transit. Give it a few days to lay flat, stretch its fibers, and relax into its new space.
- Vacuuming keeps dust from settling into the foundation, but turn off the beater bar/roller brush. Use a gentle suction-only setting or a handheld attachment.
- Foot traffic patterns and sunlight are inevitable. Rotating your rug ensures it wears and fades perfectly evenly, keeping it looking uniform.
- Accented a corner with your morning coffee? Take a clean, dry white towel and press firmly to absorb the liquid. Keep blotting until the moisture is gone.
- Think of a high-quality rug pad as insurance. It prevents slipping, protects your floors, keeps the rug from bunching, and adds an extra layer of soft cushioning.
Don't
- Seeing loose fibers on your rug during the first few weeks is completely normal, especially for wool rugs! It’s just the excess yarn shedding from the weaving process and will stop soon.
- Moisture is the enemy of natural fibers. Make sure it isn't placed anywhere with hidden leaks or extreme humidity, as this can trap mildew.
- Off-the-shelf stain removers can strip natural dyes and ruin organic wool or cotton.
- Scrubbing pushes the liquid deeper into the fibers and twists the yarn, causing permanent damage.
